Target Audience: Registered dietitians, dietetic technicians, nurses, and other health professionals involved in wellness and disease prevention.


The goal of this presentation is to teach healthcare professionals how to use the mindful eating cycle to help patients with diabetes or prediabetes develop healthy eating habits. Upon completion, participants will be able to:


  • List the six decision points in the Mindful Eating Cycle
  • Practice and describe a Mind-Body-Heart Scan
  • Use a Hunger and Fullness Scale in diabetes self-management
  • Use the mindfulness principle of curiosity to teach blood glucose management



Michelle May, MD, FAAFP

Dr. May is a family physician and the award-winning author of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat: How to Break Your Eat-Repent-Repeat Cycle. She served on the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Commission on the Health of the Public and Science and is Past President of the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians. Her mindful eating approach is the basis for the American Academy of Family Physician’s “Americans in Motion AAFP” wellness campaign. She is founder of the Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Workshops and Facilitator Training Program.

Michelle May discloses she is the founder of Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Programs and Training, and co-author of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat with Diabetes.


Megrette Fletcher, MEd, RD, CDE

Ms. Fletcher is a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, and mindful eating expert.

Megrette Fletcher discloses she is the co-founder of The Center for Mindful Eating, and co-author of Discover Mindful Eating and Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat with Diabetes.
